Christmas Shoe Boxes

"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

So....I realize it is the middle of September, and Christmas is 3 months away. But hey, you can never start too early, right? I hope you just agreed! Haha!

This year I have set a goal. I guess it could be considered a pre-New Year resolution. No, I do not plan on getting more fit, or a better education, or to quit smoking. Although all good things, I am going to be putting together my own shoe box! 

Not to put shoes in them. I am going to make an Operation Christmas Child Shoe box!

                                   

                                                                              

In case you do not know what an Operation Christmas Child shoe box is, let me elaborate. There are children all around the world who will not be getting anything for Christmas. Every year Operation Christmas Child organizes for MILLIONS of shoe boxes to be sent to children around the world. But it is up to us to pack the boxes being sent. What do you have to do? You get a shoe box, pick an age and gender,

fill it with things you think your child would like, and then give a minimum of a $7 donation. You can pack things such as crayons, paper, pencils, toothbrushes, stuffed animals, hard candy, toys, socks, hair brushes, etc. 

This year, like I said earlier, I am packing my own! I have chosen a 10-14 year old boy. I tried to pick what I thought would be the hardest age. :) I am really excited, and I have already been able to get a few items!

Three Words (Part 2)

"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."

Okay, so the last time I told you about my three favorite words, and I can't very well leave the cup full.  So, let's drain it a little bit.  Then you can decide weather it is half full or half empty. :)  I am going to tell you my three least favorite words. 

Word 1:

Agelast:

A person who never laughs

How sad is that!

I honestly cannot imagine anyone who doesn't laugh, although I am sure there are plenty of people who do not. I mean there has to be or there wouldn't be a word for them. Laughter is one of the very best gifts God has ever given us.  It is the best medicine out there.  Talk about a boost! I love to laugh, and even sometimes get in trouble for laughing too much. But hey, I would much rather get in trouble for laughing then not ever laugh at all. 

Second and Third:

These next two go together.  They are words I cannot stand. 

Normal:

conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or average.

&

Gossip (AKA: Talking behind someone's back):

casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people.

These two go together, because when someone fails to be normal, they usually get gossip.  Our society is so focused on the need to be normal, perfect, and just like everybody else. When someone fails to meet these standards they fall into the torture pit of gossip. Being talked about behind their back. None of us can be normal, otherwise there would be no unique.  My dad says this a lot, "Normal is only the setting on a dryer."

We are supposed to build people up, not tear them down.  It's verbal bullying, and you might not even know it. When someone acts, dresses, or speaks differently then you do, that does not give you reason to criticize them, cut them down, or talk about them behind their backs? We have all done it before.  No, one is perfect, but please take the time to stop and think about what you are saying.

Three Words (Part 1)

"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer."

~Psalm 19:14

Words can have a big impact. Take a moment to think about words. What can they be used for? Many, many, things right? Love, hate, fear, sorrow, to tear down, to build up, to describe, etc. I have three favorite words.

The first word is:

Unique: 

being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else.

I think this word is amazing.  It is one that everybody needs to remember.  God made me unique, unlike anything else!  Even twins are different; even they are unique, one of a kind.  I will not and never could be copied.  I do not need to copy someone else either; an original is much better then a copy.

Second:

Mission:

 a strongly felt aim, ambition, or calling.

This word can have many different meanings.  I mean it only has a couple of dictionary meanings, but it can mean a lot of different things to people personally. It could mean, finding something valuable, a health goal, a trek across a mountain, or an aim for knowledge.  For me it means a mission to spread God's love across the world.  To give a never-ending gift to those who need. 

 Third:

Hope:

a feeling of trust.

Hope is just a word, H-O-P-E.  But what it stands for, the feeling that I associate with it, is so much more. A feeling of trust. Trust in God. That is where my hope comes from, God.  Without Him we would know no hope. There would be no hope to hope for.  So I thank Him that I can put my hope, and trust in Him, and know that I am completely safe in His arms.  

These are my three favorite words, and why I like them!  :)  Words are more then just letters on a page.  They are keys, gifts, to the inner being of people.  With words comes responsibility  a lesson I am still learning. 

I Weep for Miley

Poetry and Writing

That is a wonderful verse. One that I most defiantly recommend memorizing.

Today I would like to show you some of my poetry or writing. I am just beginner, so some of them might not be as good. Right now the only writing I do is for fun or school, but maybe one day I may take it higher. Only God knows. 

I believe this poem was the first one I ever wrote. It was inspired by my brother. I had to cover some of the senses, smell, feel, hear, see, and taste. I used many, although I did not use all of them. 

My Brother's Room

My Brother's room smells like socks.

The floor is always covered,

It needs to be mothered.

You can often hear the crunching of thing beneath your feet,

And wonder what my brother has had to eat.

You can't see a thing:

So you must be careful when walking through his room,

My advice for my brother is to get a broom!  

I hope I can say I have come a long was since then...

My assignment for this one was to write as if you were an object and then have the reader guess what object you were.

I am a steady place to lay your head,

I am not one that must be fed.

You can tell me your sorrows, and cry me your tears,

For I stay the same throughout the years.

I have many secrets that must be kept,

Many dreams I have known in the times you have slept.

How often do you think of me when you roam?

Yet no matter where you go, you can always think of me as your home.

That was about a bed.

Next was to write about one of my favorite actives.

I feel the light shining on my face,
Doing this is nothing like a race,
My voice is loud and clear.
When I am finished I the cheer
I am not me anymore, 
For I am someone from another shore.

The Willow is a graceful girl

Who smiles and plays throughout the days,

This one I  was to write part of a prayer, as well as embody repetition.

A Prayer From My Heart to Above

If I made many a wrong choice,

If I have opted not to listen to Your voice,

If I have forgotten to give thanks and rejoice,

Gracious Lord, forgive!

In this one I was to write as if I were David writing one of the Psalms, as well as to ebody repetition in this one too.
